The Most Famous Unsolved Celebrity Murders
Celebrities are almost always in the spotlight, but in these cases of unsolved celebrity murders, their fame wasn't enough to save them, or find their killer. This list features unsolved murders of celebrities and includes some of the most notorious crimes in history. Some of these celebrities were filming at the time of their death, while others were in their own homes. Which celebrities have been murdered? Which celebrity murders are still unsolved? Most of these murders are considered closed after years of searching for the appropriate suspect were proven unsuccessful. However, some of these unsolved celebrity murder cases remain open and authorities are still attempting to identify what lead to the murders and what motivated the killers. Unfortunately even if police were able to name a suspect for the death, many times there was insufficient evidence to support an arrest.

In these unsolved murders of celebrities no one will ever be held responsible for the crime, leaving fans, friends, and family members grieving for their loss without the hope of justice.
There are a variety of theories that have been given for many of these crimes, some crazier than others. Unfortunately, this remains pure speculation.

Bob Crane
Famous for: playing Colonel Robert H. Hogan on "Hogan’s Heroes"

Crane's body was discovered in his apartment in 1979 after an electrical cord was tied around his neck and he had been bludgeoned to death. The murder weapon was never found, but police suspected it was a camera tripod. A friend of Crane’s was named a suspect after blood was found in his car that matched Crane’s blood type. However, DNA testing was not available at the time so no charges were ever made. The case was reopened in 1990 but testing was inconclusive. Crane’s death remains unsolved.
David Carradine
Famous for: well-known character actor and martial artist
 
On June 4, 2009, Carradine was found dead in his hotel room in Bangkok, where he was shooting a movie. The actor's body was found hanging in the closet with a rope tied around his neck, wrist, and genitals, in an apparent act of autoerotic asphyxiation. Following his death, two of Carradine's ex-wives, Gail Jensen and Marina Anderson, stated that Carradine did indeed have a self-bondage fetish and an overall penchant for "deviant sexual behavior." Since then, Anderson has publicly claimed that she conducted her own investigation of Carradine's death, ruling he was murdered.
Jill Dando
Famous for: journalist, TV personality, newscaster, and 1997 BBC Personality of the Year

Dando was murdered by a gunshot outside her home in West London in 1999. A local man named Barry George was convicted for the murder but was later acquitted by an appeal. A Yugoslav terrorist connection was initially dismissed by police, but later acquired more merit. The case remains open and unsolved.
Peter Ivers
Famous for: musician, host of the New Wave Theater in Los Angeles

In 1983, Ivers was killed in his bed, having been beaten to death. Upon his death, hundreds of friends had gone to Iver's apartment to mourn his death and in doing so they compromised much of the evidence. A number of theories abound about the cause for his murder. Some say he was killed as the result of a robbery while others speculate that he was killed by a New Wave Theater patron. Unfortunately though, none of these theories came to fruition and the murder remains unsolved.
Thelma Todd
Famous for: was an actress in the late 1920s and early 1930s, known as "Hot Toddy"

Todd lived in an apartment above the café she ran on the Roosevelt Highway. She was found dead inside a garage, left behind the steering wheel of her car. At the time, some believed she had committed suicide or accidentally killed herself while warming up her car. However, signs of foul play came later cam to light. Despite this, the death of was ultimately ruled a suicide after evidence that Todd was depressed and occasionally spoke of suicide came to light. No one will ever know what really happened.
The Notorious B.I.G.
Famous for: hip hop icon

Christopher George Latore Wallace was better known by his stage names The Notorious B.I.G., Biggie or Biggie Smalls. He became a central figure in the East Coast hip hop scene during a time when the West Coast hip hop scene was dominant in the mainstream. This lead to an ongoing feud between the two groups. He was killed in 1997 in a drive-by shooting in L.A. No one was ever named a suspect in his death.
Tupac Shakur
Famous for: hip hop icon

Shakur was shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in 1996 which led to his death six days later. He had just attended a boxing match and a witness identified a Crips gang member, Orlando "Baby Lane" Anderson, in the lobby. The witness also said that Anderson had attacked Shakur. It is speculated that the death was gang related, but sufficient evidence was never given that lead to any arrests.
Natalie Wood
Famous for: film actress starring in West Side Story and Rebel Without a Cause

Born Natalia Nikolaevna Zakharenko, Wood was known for her high-profile relationships with many men, from Elvis Presley to Dennis Hopper. On the evening of November 28, 1981, she was in Catalina Island taking a break from filming the sci-fi film Brainstorm with her co-star, Christopher Walken, and her husband, Robert Wagner, when she allegedly slipped and fell into the water while trying to secure a dinghy. Wood's autopsy revealed she drank "seven or eight" glasses of wine. A passenger on a boat nearby claimed she heard someone yelling cries of help that evening. In the wake of Wood's death, her lawyer said, "It was not a homicide… not a suicide. It was an accident."
Ronni Chasen
Famous for: Hollywood publicist

Chasen was a veritable institution in the movie industry, representing everyone from filmmakers to producers and composers. She orchestrated the Oscar campaign for Driving Miss Daisy, and worked with actor Michael Douglas. In the early hours of November 16, 2010, while driving home from the Hollywood premiere of the film Burlesque, Chasen's Mercedes was shot at five times and her body was found slumped over in her car. The murder had many in Hollywood scratching their heads and sparked a massive police hunt, with some sources claiming it was a planned hit. Adding to the mystery, the lead suspect in the murder reportedly committed suicide.
Sophie Toscan du Plantier
Famous for: French film producer

du Plantier was brutally beaten to death outside her holiday home in Ireland in 1996, just before Christmas. She was married to another film producer, Daniel Toscan du Plantier, and her death remains unsolved.
