It's always gut-wrenching to find out that one of the most talented, successful athletes is a murderer. Several famous boxers, NFL athletes and MLB players have murdered people. Some of these athletes killed their significant others, while others took the lives of people they barely knew. Some of these athletes were even involved in murder-suicides.

Who is the most famous athlete who murdered someone? Ray Lewis tops our list. In 2000, Ray Lewis and his friends were involved in a fight that resulted in the stabbing deaths of two people. Lewis made a plea deal to provide testimony against his companions in exchange for prosecutors dropping the murder charges. He was fined $250,000 by the NFL and reached settlements with the victims' families.

At age 25, on Dec. 1, 2012, Jovan Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend, the mother of his child, and then drove to the Kansas City Chiefs' practice facility and shot himself. In 2013, Oscar Pistorius fatally shot his girlfriend. He claimed that he thought she was a burglar. In 1991, Mark Rogowski was charged with raping and murdering Jessica Bergsten. He was sentenced to 31 years in prison for his crimes.

Carlos Monzón
Carlos Monzón was charged with killing his wife Alicia Muñiz in 1988. He was sentenced to 11 years in jail, but died in a car crash in 1995 during a weekend furlough.
Esteban de Jesús
In 1981, Esteban de Jesús was convicted of murder after killing a 17-year-old in a traffic dispute. He was sentenced to life in prison.
Leslie Hylton
In 1955, Leslie Hylton killed his wife. He was sentenced to death by hanging for the crime.
Mark Rogowski
In 1991, Mark Rogowski was charged with raping and murdering Jessica Bergsten. He was sentenced to 31 years in prison for his crimes.
Oscar Pistorius
In 2013, Oscar Pistorius fatally shot his girlfriend. He claimed that he thought she was a burglar.
O. J. Simpson
O.J. Simpson may have been acquitted of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman back in 1995, but two years later, a civil jury found him liable for the wrongful death of and battery against Goldman.

In 2007, O. J. Simpson was also convicted of Armed Robbery, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Burglary and Conspiracy. He was sentenced to nine to 33 years in prison for these crimes.
